16-Year-Old Airlifted To Hospital After Hitting Head In Massapequa Pool

A 16-year-old was airlifted to the hospital after hitting his head in a backyard pool at a home on Long Island.

It happened in Massapequa around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, Nassau County Police said.

Officers responded to a report of a boy who was injured while diving into a pool and hitting his head on the bottom. 

Upon police arrival, officers observed the victim lying by the side of the pool after his friends pulled him out. The victim was responsive but unable to move his body, police said.

The victim suffered a serious injury to his neck, back and head, police said.

Nassau County Police, along with a Nassau County Police Medic, did notify the Nassau County Police Aviation Unit to land a helicopter in a nearby schoolyard so the victim could be transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. While at the hospital the victim began to regain some movement.
